State award winner Sardar Harchand Singh Salh is a self made man. He was born to Smt. Sant Kaur on 17th january,1944 who left him alone when he was only 2 months old. He Grew up in joint family where his cousin Sardar Prem Singh guided and motivated him for higher studies. His father Sardar Amar Singh was very renowned Gadda (Bullock Cart) maker of Jagraon area. He grew up in joint family and completed his B. Sc from LRM College, Jagraon. His further study is a fruit of his service. He had joined LRM College as a demonstrator on 14th july,1967.

    Then he Joined G. K. College Guru ki Kashi (Damdama Sahib Talwandi Saboo) as demonstrator on 9th August,1967. Then he joined Ramgarhia Senior Secandory School (Boys) as lecturer on 20th October,1970. He is such a personality which embodies high caliber, sweet temper, love for rules and discipline. Due to these qualities, his untiring efforts, zeal and courage have raised him to the position of principal of Ramgarhia Senior Secandory School Ludhiana, which is an institute of great repute not only in Punjab but all over India. He crowned himself with various degrees from different universities. He got his M.Sc. degree from Raja Balwant Singh College, Agra. B.Ed. from Rajasthan University, Jaipur and M.Ed. degree from Himachal University, Shimla.

    As a principal under the benign patronage of school committee, he made all round progress of the school with the cooperation of the school staff and students. Under his guidance the school is progressing in almost every field: games, scouting, science fairs, exhibitions, declamation contests, musical competi-tions, religious examinations, turban tying competitions, school band and dramatic & cultural activities. The institute shows brilliant results every year. The school takes pride in having produced promising engineers, lawyers, doctors (Dr. Karnail Singh is one example) and successful businessmen and many more pioneers in other fields. He has been the ‘in-charge’ of the flying squad for the last six years.
    He was honored by so many clubs and societies, like Saheed Memorial Sewa Society & Guru Gobind Singh study circle. Above all 'State Award' was conferred on him by the Punjab Government in 1995 in a state level function. He has been a paper-setter of Punjab School Education Board since 1995.Due to his hard work school won the second prize in the District Ludhiana worth Rupees 25000/- from Punjab School Education Board, Mohali in anti-copying campaign.

   He got married to Smt. Kamaljit Kaur Matharoo of Tussa village near Ludhiana on 29th June,1969. She is matriculate with the Diploma of Nursery. After 11 years of her marriage, with the motivation of Sardar Harchand Singh, she had done J.B.T. from Basic Training school Jagraon in 1979. Then she joined Ramgarhia elementary school Ludhiana as a teacher. After 20 years of her service she retired in August 2000. She had shown deep love and affection for her students during her stay in the school.

   Now she is giving free coaching to the poor and needy children. The couple is God fearing and is always ready to serve others. Both are regular visitors of Gurudwara. Sardar Harchand Singh is the general Secretary of Gurudwara Akal Sahib, New Janta Nagar, district secretary of Anti Corruption Board, general secretary of Akal Public School, Janta Nagar and member of Jan Vigyan Jatha, Ludhiana. He and his cousin Sardar Swaran Singh had donated a water cooler to the school in memory of their beloved Chacha ji Sardar Budh Singh.
