Sardar Surjit Singh Pattar (Hunjan)

   When Sardar Surjit Singh Hunjan lost his 50 paisa coin and he got very disturbed because it was his saving with which he had to buy an edition of Preet Larhi (a famous Punjabi Monthly) which gives momentum to his thoughts and words to his poems.
   Now he is president of Punjabi Sahit Academy. He got ‘Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad Panchnaad Puraskar’. But happy moments came to his life when he received money order worth Rs 25/-from the editor of Jan Sahit Magazine in 1965 in which his poem was published. Sardar Surjit Singh Hunjan popularly known as Surjit Pattar was born on Maghi day of 1945 to Smt. Gurbaksh Kaur Phool at village Pattar Kalan district Jalandhar. His father Giani Harbhajan Singh Hunjan was a very good writer of religious poetry.

     He did his graduation from Randhir College Kapurthala and stood First in Punjabi Subject. Then he had his Masters in Punjabi with gold medal from Punjabi University Patiala in 1968. Then PhD from Guru Nanak Dev University. He had written many books like "Hawa Vich Likhey Heraf"," Birkh Araz Karey", "Hanery Vich Sulagdi Varanmala", "Lafzan Di Dargah" (Poetry). He had adopted many play and written the dialogue for Punjabi Film Sheed Udham Singh (Hero Raj Babbar).

    He is member of so many Sabha Societies and is actively involved in Punjabi Sahit Academy. He had received ‘Punjabi Sahit academy award’, ‘Mussafir award’,’ Dhaliwal award’, ‘Batalvi award’, ‘Misha award’, ‘Poet of the decade award’ and many more. He had visited UK, Canada, USA, Australia, China.He had represented India in Colombia (Latin America) in 1999 in the International Poetry Festival. Two TV serials are also in his credit "Suraj Da Sirnavan" and "Lok Rang". His brothers Sardar Didar Singh (Hunjan) Perdasi and Sardar Onkar Singh Hunjan are also renowned singer. Sardar Surjit Singh Hunjan is married to Smt. Bhupinder Kaur Bahra( B.A., B.Ed.) of village Mehali Distt Jalandhar. The couple is blessed with two sons.
